French Prime Minister Receives Underwear in Mail Protest
Women Protesting The French Government By Sending The Prime Minister Underwear In The Mail.
French lingerie stores owners are using a unique form of protest to voice their dissatisfaction with lockdown rules put in place by the French government to prevent the rise of COVID-19 Coronavirus.
The French government’s decision to classify Lingerie as non-essential items thus preventing lingerie businesses from operating during the lockdown has angered store owners, and as a result have sent mail packages to French Prime Minister Jean Castex, who drafted the recent lockdown rules, as a form of protest.
The packages contain underwear placed inside an envelope together with a letter urging the government to rethink their lockdown rules and to avoid damage to lingerie businesses and furthermore remove the inconvenience for women who believe that underwear is an essential item during a pandemic.
Nathalie Paredes, owner of Sylvette Lingerie store in Lyon and organiser of the protest Group Action Culottée which translated means "Action Panties," has stated that hundreds of underwear have been sent to the Prime minister, and dozens of images of these parcels have been shared online.
The mission of Action Culottée is to bring attention the serious impact that the lockdown has had on Lingerie stores across France and women. The protesting lingerie store owners also think that their actions will help bring awareness to the plight of Lingerie store owners who are suffering because of the lockdown rules .
In response to the protest, these lingerie stores are getting a positive reception from other industry professionals and customers. The majority of people on social media are supporting this protest and many French citizens believe that the government made a mistake by classifying underwear as non-essential items during the lockdown and it needs to be reclassified as essential services.
For these lingerie owners, underwear is an essential part of their lives and world. Lingerie is not just underwear. Lingerie is freedom and security.
Following the protest by lingerie, Castex’s staff issued a statement saying the government had “taken note” of their demands.
The lockdown system was established to prevent the spread of a deadly virus. France returned to a national lockdown on April 3, closing stores considered as non essential - bars, gyms, galleries and theaters. Yet, book and music stores were permitted to stay open. These actions were announced due to an increase in Covid-19 cases across France.
