Lingerie and Body Hair: Can We Make Space for Both?
There's a quiet truth rarely spoken in glossy lingerie ads: body hair is edited out. For decades, traditional lingerie marketing has sold us an image — one of flawless, hairless skin, sculpted curves, and hyper-smooth sensuality. It's an image designed to please the gaze, not to honour the reality of most women. But at Olyinka Lingerie, we're asking a different question: what if sensuality isn't about erasure, but about presence?
Can body hair and lingerie coexist? We believe not only can they — they should.
The Beauty Bias Hidden in Lace
From catwalks to catalogues, body hair has long been cast as undesirable — something to be waxed, lasered, filtered, or retouched. Especially when it comes to lingerie, the unspoken message has been clear: to be sexy, you must be smooth. We know this isn't true, because that message doesn't just exclude — it alienates. It tells women that their natural state is not good enough, that femininity is fragile and desirability is earned through discomfort.
But we know better. At Olyinka, we've seen beauty in all its forms — in the gentle curl of underarm hair, in the soft fuzz of a stomach, in the natural, lived-in skin of real women. We don't believe you should have to erase parts of yourself to feel empowered in lace.
Behind the Scenes: Our Own Reckoning
When we launched our collection, we were advised — like many brands — to "tone things down." One request stood out: to remove body hair from our main model during editing. We did so, reluctantly. It was a slow, tedious, and disheartening process. Not because we weren't proud of our model, but because the act of erasure felt like a betrayal of everything Olyinka stands for. It stripped away the authenticity, the raw femininity we were trying to celebrate. We've made a promise to ourselves — and to you — not to do that again.
Redefining What's Feminine (and What's Sexy)
Body hair is not unfeminine. It's not unsexy. It's not unclean. It's human. It's natural. It's yours, and it deserves space in your story — especially in the most intimate moments. Lingerie should never be about performing femininity to fit someone else's idea of beauty. It should be about expressing your own. Whether that's polished or playful, silky or strong, completely bare or proudly unshaven, your sensuality is valid in every form, and we're here to honour that.
The Olyinka Way: Sensuality Without Shame
At Olyinka Lingerie, we design with the belief that every body deserves to feel luxurious, cherished, and seen. We refuse to erase what makes you real. That includes your curves, your scars, your shape — and yes, your hair. We don't do lingerie that demands you change first. We do lingerie that meets you exactly where you are, and elevates you there.
So… Can We Make Space for Both?
Yes. We can make space for lace and leg hair. For silk and stubble. For sheer bras and skin that tells a story.
We believe the future of lingerie isn't about perfection. It's about presence. It's about sensuality rooted in freedom, and confidence born from self-acceptance — not self-denial. Because you're already fabulous, with hair or without, and you deserve lingerie that lets you feel it.
